Nymph

  1. Thread the beads onto a length of monofilament with the small holes together and tie the ends together to form a loop.
  2. Run on the tying thread, place the looped mono on top of the hook and a secure with a few thread wraps.
  3. Position the beads on either side of the hook eye, pull the loop back and secure with thread wraps over the mono and then make cross wraps between the eyes. Cut off the waste mono.
  4. Cut a length of cat gut and soak in warm water for a few minutes.
  5. Tie in at the bend and bind down up the hook.
  6. Wind the gut around the hook once, then twist and continue winding forward in touching turns. Tie in and trim off the waste.
  7. Strip the fibres from the base of a partridge feather and snip out the tip. Tie in with the fibres on either side of the hook.
  8. Dub the thorax up to the bead. Smear the thread with varnish and whip finish behind the beads.

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
